New Premises for Fahy Motorhomes.com

We recently moved premises to our new showrooms in Longford town. With rising prices of property in Dublin, and conscious of trying to offer customers competitive prices on motorhomes, it was a move we gave some serious thought about. We thought Longford would be a good location, right in the centre of the country. I personally, drive the journey regularly, and from Swords to Longford only takes me 90 minutes. Take the N4 the whole way down. We are now based on the Athlone road, (Lild and Supervalu are on the same road) just on the out skirts of the town across the road from Brooks.

Update:

20/7/06 - We had some very good news about one of the campers that were stolen on us.

We received a phone call from the Gardai to be informed that one of the motorhomes that was stolen from our premises 18 months ago had turned up. The vehicle had been cloned. For those of you that may not be aware, basically, the thieves steal a motorhome and then give it a "new identity". When I say new, I mean it gets the identity of another persons motorhome of the same year/model. Believe me it's possible for them to get all the information they require.

Then, there are 2 motorhomes driving around with the same identity. If the cloned vehicle is sold ,the unsuspecting buyer could end up loosing their money.

ADVICE:

You can buy a motorhome privately or from a dealer. Always be aware. I have met a lot of people over the last number of years and they tell their stories, about meeting people in car parks to view motorhomes. This sounds strange right from the start.

Here are a couple of things I would recommend to do:

1. Always view the motorhome in the sellers home/business premises. Arranging to meet in car parks is very suspicious in my opinion.

2. Make sure all paper work is in order. Make sure the vehicles chassis number and engine number match the Vehicle registration certificate/log book.

3. You should always make sure the vehicle is clear of finance/hire purchase. These are expensive vehicles and some people borrow against them. If buying from a dealer this will already have been checked out.

4. If buying privately try and make sure you are buying from the person that legally owns the vehicle.

5. Motorhomes in general tend to have relatively low mileage, but always check the service history, and match it up with what's currently on the vehicle. Paper work showing that it was serviced in 2001 with 40,000km and today it only has 45,000km is a little strange.

All the above are my personal opinion, and are by no ways legal advice. Always err on the side of caution. Motorhomes are expensive vehicles. If you purchase a vehicle that was stolen you will have no legal right to keep it.

Happy camping.

THIEVES DRIVE OFF IN CAMPERS WORTH €100,000

Article from the Northside People Newspaper Vol:18 No. 03 19th Jan-25-Jan 05.

Reporter Pat O'Rourke

A NORTHSIDE businessman is this week pleading with the public for their help in recovering two motorhomes stolen from his Cloghran premise.

Frank Fahy, the owner of FahyMotorHomes.com, situated behind the Coachman's Inn at Dublin Airport, is offering a substantial reward for the return of the two vehicles which have a combined value of more than €100,000.

The vehicles were stolen last Monday night/Tuesday morning (January 10/11).

According to Mr. Fahy, CCTV showed the first vehicle being driven out of the main gate at 11.30pm and the second at 12.17am.

Mr. Fahy's tale of woe began around 2pm on the Monday. He was preparing a particular vehicle for customs clearance and was planning to leave the premises when he had a visit from his landlord.

While they were chatting, other people entered the compound to view the campers. When Mr. Fahy finished his conversation with the landlord he locked up and left the premises.

However, as he arrived in Donabate where the vehicles are serviced, he noticed that the keys and his briefcase were missing.

He promptly returned to the premises in Cloghran but after several frantic minutes of searching the office and the yard his worst fears were realised - the briefcase and keys had been stolen. He informed the gardai immediately.

That evening, Mr. Fahy parked the remaining motorhome, to which he still had keys, across the front gates to prevent an exit route. Throughout the remainder of the evening the yard was checked on several occasions to ensure that locks hadn't been tampered with and that there were no trespassers on the premises.

Then, at 12.45am, Mr. Fahy's worst fears became reality. The railings at the front of the yard had been pulled away and the motorhome that had been originally used to block the gates had been vandalised and moved back to allow for an easy exit.

Two of the motorhomes had been stolen.

One of the vehicles had a Dublin registration 04 D 53772, the second had a German export registration KS-04946.

Mr. Fahy said: "We are offering a substantial reward for their return and all calls will be treated in the strictest confidence."
